STOP INCESSANT CANCELLATIONS OF EXAMINATION – REPS WARNS WAEC

The House of Representatives has asked the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to stop the incessant cancellation of examinations.

The lower chamber also resolved to probe the leaking of examination questions and the resultant cancellations.

These resolutions were made after the adoption of a motion moved by the Spokesperson of the House, Ben Kalu.

Kalu said the body, which is in charge of conducting O’ Level examination in West Africa has not been up to the task.

He stated that despite spending N1.5 billion on examinations, the body still ends up cancelling examinations.

According to Kalu, the incessant “cancellation and subsequent rescheduling of exams by WAEC, results in wastage and incurs avoidable expenses to the country which is already burdened with debts.”

He warned that if urgent action is not taken to check the “inefficiencies of WAEC, improve the security of O’ Level examinations and ultimately put an end to the incessant cancellation of exams, Nigeria’s education system will further deteriorate.”

To conduct the investigation, the House mandated its committee on Primary Education to carry out an investigation and report to the House in 4weeks.
